Are You a Bag Lady?

I loved this Erykah Badu song the instant I heard it.

The message was that if you are too attached to your stuff, eventually your stuff will own you.

Bag lady you gone hurt your back
Dragging all them bags like that
I guess nobody ever told you
All you must hold onto, is you, is you, is you

One day all them bags gon’ get in your way
One day all them bags gon’ get in your way
I said one day all them bags gon’ get in your way
One day all them bags gon’ get in your way, so pack light,
Pack light, mm, pack light, pack light, oh ooh

Bag lady you gon’ miss your bus
You can’t hurry up, ’cause you got too much stuff
When they see you coming, niggas take off running
From you it’s true, oh yes they do

One day he gon’ say you crowding my space
One day he gon’ say you crowding my space
I said one day he gon’ say you crowding my space
One day he gon’ say you crowding my space so, pack light
Pack light, mm, pack light, pack light, ooh ooh

For me it’s not just the stuff, the physical material stuff

It’s also the mental stuff that’s holding you back.

What are your stories that you are holding onto?

Do you let your past paint every picture of you?

Do you let your parental story hold you back?

I know I am SO guilty of this at times but whenever I just let go of my story and actually live in the present, I feel so much better and I absolutely am able to craft a better future for myself.

Because honestly as somebody who used to do all of that stuff, my life became easier once I dropped all the bullshit.

Who cares if I wasn’t born in the US?

Who cares if I don’t have perfect teeth?

Who cares if I didn’t have as many friends as I wanted growing up?

All that matters is now.

Am I living the life I want now?

All it matters is now.

If you are happy in the now, your past doesn’t matter.

And your future planning will be more accurate.

The question is, are you going to be ready?

One of the best ways to actually change your habit is to surround yourself with like-minded people.

As a leader for women I’ve started a group called The Brave Warrior Princesses, and it’s a great place to be if you’re ready to shed your past and really start your future.
